Officer Reports:
- President: Al welcomed everyone to the meeting.
- Secretary: The minutes from the February meeting were approved as written.
- Treasurer: Ending balance @ 02/28/06 is $15,369.85.
Old Business/New Business:
- Al introduced Patti Shawgo as our new Marketing/Communications Chair. Patti will work on the Monthly Business Spotlight with the Jeffersonian and the North County News.
- Al indicated we would discuss the budget, donations and parade at the next meeting.
- One of Al's goals is to get more exposure for individual businesses (i.e. Farm Fair at HMS, Regional Track Meet, Essay Contest). Volunteers are needed to explore these projects.
Committee Reports:
- Directory: To date there are 42 ads and a total of $5500 collected. Ray from Minuteman Press brought a draft of the new glossy/color Directory so advertisers could proof and sign-off on their ads. Rose will follow up with any advertisers not at the meeting. The membership voted and approved an approximate cost to the association of $7000 to cover the shortage in advertising fees raised and postage to mail the Directory to the zone zip codes. Ray is to provide us with a cost for additional copies in 500 quantity increments. There was discussion on printing the Directory every other year.
- Membership: Jim Deluca passed around a sign-up sheet for volunteers to contact area businesses. This is our Business Ambassador Program. There are 391 businesses in Monkton, Hereford and Parkton to be called upon. Please email Jim the name of any potential members of which you are aware. Jim is calling upon previous members to do an "Exit Interview", and he has developed a benefits listing.
- Web Master: We are receiving 40 hits per day, up from 37, and more calendar events are being listed.
- Fall Fest: No report
- Community Affairs: A sign up sheet was passed for those companies interested in displaying the "For Our Troops" pins. Call Dave or Al if you are interested. You may also call Jen Greenwood at 443-956-0877.
- Hospitality: no report at this time. Thank you M&T for providing lunch at our meeting!
- Raffle baskets: no report at this time
- Ad-hoc Donations Committee: no report at this time
- Golf Outing: A vote was taken and approved that we again hold the golf outing, probably the second Saturday in June. It was suggested that we look into holding the outing on the day of the parade.
GUEST SPEAKER:
We were pleased to have Stanley H. Jacobs, CFO of the Department of Economic Development for Baltimore County join us. The department can help local businesses in the following ways: finding site locations, site improvements (permits), work force development, and loan programs. They work with all sizes of businesses including Fortune 500 companies. Loans through the department are typically two points below commercial loans, with a reduced down payment, and can be used for any purpose (i.e. to buy real estate, equipment purchases or working capital). The department works in tandem with approximately 15 banks; they do not compete with them. M&T is one such bank they are accustomed to working with. They are flexible with a four page application, a 10 day approval time and they can do a "bridge" loan if funds are needed more quickly. You can reach Stan at 410-887-8033, or at . Meeting Adjourned:
There being no further time, President Copp adjourned at 1:03 pm.
Next Meeting:
April 13th at noon at the HVFC.
Food Bank Items:
Please remember your items for the food bank this month: cereal or spaghetti sauce. A "forgot my item" fine of $1, $2, $5 will be imposed should you forget your donation.
