Committee Reports

  1. General - Dave will meet with each Committee Chair in January to build Committee participation.
  2. Directory - Dave to meet with Rose to explore new ideas for the next Directory.
  3. Membership - The executive board will meet January 20th at noon at the Pub to review membership listings, billings and email accounts.
  4. Web Master - The website still needs some updating as some information is incorrect. The executive board will address this at their meeting.
  5. Fall Fest - It was suggested that we get an earlier start this year. Jeff suggested we meet then set up a meeting with Tom Ruhl before the end of February. Mary and Al will take part in the meetings.
  6. Raffle Basket - Our holiday basket raffle made $671.00 and included donations by 49 businesses and 93 items. Several members noted that holding another raffle so soon after the Fall Festival may be taxing both our donors and ticket purchasers. Dave to discuss with John.
  7. Welcome Book - Most of the first run of the Welcome Book has been distributed; any excess will be used as "samples" for prospective advertisers. The new printing will be done in mid-February by Kathy on 24 lb. paper. Paulette to provide Kathy with a listing of new area residents covering the period of July 2004-January 2005. Jeff to update cover of book to distinguish it from previous printing. Cost is $50 per ad. Kathy to keep a list; Glenn to do billing. Deadline to change previous ad is January 31, 2005 to Kathy. Once printed Kathy will seek volunteers to deliver.

New Business:

  1. Hereford Volunteer Fire Department-Jeff reported that the HVFD seeks to partner with HZBA through signage, websites, databases and events. The HVFD is developing demographics for our area that, so far, include 5000 names. The HVFD is willing to share this with HZBA through various means. This will be discussed in more detail at future meetings.

Guest Speaker
John R. Beever, the Executive Director of the Hunt Valley Business Forum, shared his organization's mission with us. They exist to support area businesses and organizations through the dissemination of information. Their members are generally from Lutherville to the Maryland Line up the I83 corridor (with the base in Hunt Valley) and include one-man companies to large employers such as McCormick. Meetings are held twice monthly--one meeting discusses Human Resources issues, the other Area Specific Topics (facilities, security, transportation). They will hold their annual meeting on February 17, 2005. For more information visit their website at www.hvbf.org or call Al Copp or Jay Huff, both of whom are members. John Beever can be reached at 410-771-4133.

Member Business Presentations:
Vicki Franz, a new HZBA member, introduces her new publication: Mason-Dixon ARRIVE. This new monthly lifestyle magazine launches in just a few months and she hopes that you will join her in making this a small business success.

This is the kind of magazine that you will all want to read every month! The dynamic editorial format includes departments each month on antiques, history, gardening, wine, art, restaurants, home décor, daytrips and outdoors. A changing editorial highlight each month allows the area's best free-lancers to cover history, homes, people and places. We will provide a large event calendar with a focus on cultural arts, outdoors, equestrian and general interest events in the five counties that we serve: Howard, Carroll, Baltimore, Harford & Cecil Counties. Think "Southern Living" for the Mason-Dixon!!

Our incredible marketing launch includes advertising, sponsorship and/or participation at the area's largest events: the Maryland Home & Garden Show, My Lady's Manor Steeplechase Race, Maryland House & Garden Pilgrimage, the BSO Showhouse, Harford LIVE! Expo and the LPGA Golf Tournament in June.

As a small-format monthly (5.5"x8.00"), we offer terrific value for the price. We'll reach 40,000 upscale, educated readers that reside largely outside of the metropolitan Baltimore market. Our prices are affordable so that local businesses can promote across county lines and reach a new market!

The first issue of Mason-Dixon ARRIVE publishes in March! And, we'd like to offer members of HZBA Introductory Pricing to join in the excitement! We are offering members our very best rate without the commitment of a long-term agreement! This means huge savings ~ with exposure in a full-color, wide circulation monthly, with terrific editorial that keeps readers coming back to the issue again and again. And, when you add frequency, your benefits increase; call for more info on that!
Sample monthly rates, Black & White Ads:
1/8 page $125, 1/4 page $215, 1/2 page $280
These prices include ad creation. For larger ads and color pricing, call me!

We have several ways to tie-in editorially, especially if you're marketing historic homes for sale. We're also looking for ways to promote/sponsor individual neighborhoods when we focus on particular counties. Our May issue will focus on Baltimore County and we will profile John McGrain.

Please consider supporting me in this new venture! We will be distributing to a perfect business target for you! For more information, just ask!
